When and why must an armed security vessel have access denial security on-board during an SA port stay?

When a vessel enters an SA port, in particular Durban port access denial guards arranged by your SA responsible company must be embarked to control access onto the vessel – these guards will not interfere in any manner with the vessel cargo operations.

As South African ports are legislated “gun free zones” it is a requirement by Durban port authorities and the South African police that access denial be on-board the vessels 24/7 during a port stay.
